The Strange(r) Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
(with apologies to Robert Louis Stevenson)

You started off part of me
but you made my mind untidy
so with all my mental clout
I sought a way to force you out
Thus was born a terror
from my scientific error
and if hubris is a crime
I could not live out my time
Then they branded me a menace
but it was you who killed in Venice,
in Paris, in Berlin,
Though I tried to rein you in…
Over time you grew much bolder
never softer, only colder
I was “Henry” less and less
to my growing distress
So finally you’ve pushed me
to the point where I cannot see
anything but desperate acts
I have to face the facts
A fall would surely kill you
and I know that I will die too
but I’m just cashing in
the wages of our sin…
